Colorado Vignette - Denver Art Museum On October 7, 2006, the Denver Art Museum will open the doors of an expanded complex including both its current North Building, designed by Gio Ponti, and the new Frederic C. Hamilton Building, designed by architect Daniel Libeskind. Already the largest art museum between Chicago and the West Coast, the Hamilton Building's 146,000 square feet will nearly double the Museum's size. The new complex includes galleries dedicated to several collections that have never been on permanent display and several spaces for temporary exhibitions.
Admission to opening weekend is free. Timed tickets for the free weekend will be available at the museum starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, on a first-come, first-served basis. To celebrate the new complex and commemorate the 35th anniversary of the North Building, the museum will stay open for 35 hours, 10 a.m. Saturday until 9 p.m. Sunday. Enjoy music, entertainment, family activities and more! Starting Tuesday, October 10, hours will be Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.. Admission for visitors outside Colorado will be $13 for adults; $10 for seniors 65+ and students; $5 for visitors 6-18. Admission for Colorado residents will be $10 for adults; $8 for seniors 65+ and students; $3 for youths 6- 18; free for members and children under 6. Timed tickets will be required; avoid lines by purchasing tickets on-line through the museum website at www.denverartmuseum.org.
