Colorado Vignette - World Figure Skating Museum
Science - Ever wonder how skaters perform those gravity-defying jumps? At the Museum, you'll learn the intricacies of how blades and edges have changed through the centuries. You'll also learn how extraordinary athletes perform the Axel, Lutz and Salchow jumps. Art - Enjoy the world of figure skating through the eyes of such artists as Andy Warhol, Pieter Brueghel The Elder, Hendrik Averkamp and George Gach. See original art work painted by an internationally - renowned ice dancing pair using their figure skates as brushes.
Changing Exhibits - The Museum is continually changing its exhibits to highlight past and present interests. Currently on display is a new Ice Follies exhibit featuring costumes and memorabilia from the 1940's to 1970's. The "Olympic Gold" exhibit highlights Olympic moments from 1908 through 1936. A separate tribute to Tenley Albright and Hayes Alan Jenkins commemorates their Olympic figure skating gold-medal performances from 1956 in Cortina, Italy, (the last time the Winter Olympics were held in Italy). Hall of Fame - Celebrate the individuals who have made lasting contributions to this sport. Here you'll find the great names of figure skating from around the world - past and present. Museum Store - Visitors can shop both onsite and on-line. The Museum store offers a wide range of handcrafted merchandise from local artisans as well as DVD's, custom-made jewelry and books. Figure Skating: A History by James R. Hines is our newest release and co-published by the Museum. All proceeds from sales help support on-going Museum programs.
