April 5 12th Annual Tom's Terrific Cross Country Downhill. Winter Park. This five-kilometer "mostly downhill" fun race benefits junior skiers in the Competition Center. The race begins at 5 p.m. outside The Lodge at Sunspot atop Winter Park Mountain. The course always involves some uphill sections and follows mostly green terrain. Waves of ten racers start every minute on the equipment of their choice. Past participants have raced on alpine, telemark, cross-country skis, snowboards and ski-boards. 970-726-1590

April 18 -19 The Summit Foundation Hockey Classic. Now in its sixth year, this event features two days of hockey at the Steven C. West Ice Arena. Battle of the Badges kicks off the event, Summit County's Police and Fire Fighting personnel will come face to face on the ice for their fourth year of competition. On Saturday, Intrawest and Vail Resorts will return to the ice for Rivalry of the Resorts. April 20 Dole Spring Splash and Closing Day. Winter Park. This zany day begins with the Mary Jane look-alike costume contest. Participants model creative ensembles that reflect their interpretation of what the notorious Mary Jane might have worn more than a century ago. Spring Splash follows the contest at 10:30 a.m. when racers on skis and snowboards begin the course by struggling through a hilarious obstacle course. Skimming across a pond of icy water is required to reach the finish line and post a time. Live music from 2-5 p.m. All this action marks closing day at Winter Park Resort. 970-726-1564.

April 6 Skier & Boarder Cross - Finale. Winter Park. This is the last cross event of the Winter Park season. Skiers compete in the morning and snow-boarders in the afternoon in this elimination-style event. Four competitors go head-to-head down an obstacle course covered with crescents, compression rolls and spines. The top two finishers move on to the next heat and the top three finishers in each age category receive awards. Separate divisions for skiers and snowboarders. 970-726-1590.

April 12 Imperial Challenge - A grueling three-stage race testing competitors endurance as they bike and hike from the town of Breckenridge at 9,600 feet to the top of Imperial Bowl on Peak 8 at 12,998 feet. Participants complete the race by skiing or snowboarding to the Bergenhof Restaurant at Peak 8.
