April: In May of 2001, Dorothy and William Sr. Harmsen, founders of the Jolly Rancher Candy Company and long-time residents of Colorado, donated their prestigious Harmsen Western Art Collection to the Denver Art Museum. A Colorado Legacy celebrates this generous gift by showcasing more than 25 of the most significant paintings and American Indian art objects from the collection. The Harmsens' immense collection of Western and American Indian art was amassed over a 40 year period of collecting and includes work by artists including George Catlin, Charles Bird King, N.C. April - May 26 The Denver Art Museum presents Art & Home: Dutch Interiors in the Age of Rembrandt. Return to the Dutch Golden Age of the 1600's, exhibits pair 70 domestic objects with 50 paintings. April - May 26 The Denver Art Museum premiers the national tour of US Design, offering the first critical assessment of work created by American-based designers in the last quarter century. April 1 April Fool's Day, Breckenridge celebrates this wacky holiday with a town bar-be-cue hosted by the Breckenridge Restaurant Association and the crowning of the town fool. 970-453-6018.

April 5 Telluride Street Dance, the town closes Main Street for this annual end-of-season concert that features live music from the courthouse steps and a beer garden.

April 2 - 6. More than 350 master's racers age 21 and over that have qualified at other regional events around the country will converge on Winter Park to vie for national titles in slalom, giant slalom, super-G, and downhill events. 970-726-1590.

April 5 - 7 Massive Pro-Am Competitions in Breckenridge. Skiers and riders compete concurrently in Slopestyle, Superpipe & Massive Air. The Freeway Terrain Park hosts skiers and riders with prize money awarded to the top finishers of each division. 970-453-5000.

April 6. 10th Annual Tom's Terrific Cross Country Downhill. A 5 km "mostly downhill" fun race to benefit the junior skiers in the Competition Center at Winter Park. Waves of ten racers start every minute on the equipment of their choice. Past participants have raced on alpine, telemark, and cross-country skis - even snowboards, and ski-boards. 970-726-1590.

Skiers and snowboarders are welcome to participate in the second annual freeride series including Snowboard Cross, Skier Cross, Halfpipe and Slopestyle events. April 7 Bud Light Freeride Series: Skier/Snowboard Cross, in Winter Park. The skier cross is in the morning and the snowboard cross in the afternoon with competitors going head-to-head down an obstacle course covered with berms, rollers, table tops, spines, and GS gates. 970-726-1590.

April 13 Imperial Challenge - A grueling three-stage race testing competitors endurance as they bike and hike from the town of Breckenridge at 9600 feet to the top of Imperial Bowl on Peak 8 at 12,998 feet. April 14 Dole Spring Splash & Closing Day at Winter Park Resort. One of Winter Park's most anticipated events, the wet and wild Spring Splash celebrates the joy of spring skiing. Skiers and snowboarders struggle through a hilarious obstacle course that includes skimming across a pond of icy water to reach the finish line. This event also marks the closing day, 970-726-1564.

April 25 - 26 The Summit Foundation Hockey Classic: Two days of hockey starting with the Battle of the Badges. County Fire and Police personnel face-off against one another all for a good cause.
