March - April In May of 2001, Dorothy and William Sr. Harmsen, founders of the Jolly Rancher Candy Company and long-time residents of Colorado, donated their prestigious Harmsen Western Art Collection to the Denver Art Museum. A Colorado Legacy celebrates this generous gift by showcasing more than 25 of the most significant paintings and American Indian art objects from the collection. The Harmsens' immense collection of Western and American Indian art was amassed over a 40 year period of collecting and includes work by artists including George Catlin, Charles Bird King, N.C. March 2 - May 26 The Denver Art Museum presents Art & Home: Dutch Interiors in the Age of Rembrandt. Return to the Dutch Golden Age of the 1600‚s, exhibits pair 70 domestic objects with 50 paintings. March - May 28 The Denver Art Museum presents China Meets the American Southwest, Pottery Designs and Traditions. Pottery from opposite sides of the globe contrasts Native American pieces from the museums collection with ancient Chinese examples on loan from the Sze Hong Collection. 720-865-5000

March 2 - 3 Copper Mountain Snowboard Series. The longest-running amateur snowboard series in North America! The USASA sanctioned series includes Halfpipe on Saturday and Slopestyle on Sunday. March 7 - 8 Rocky Mountain Freestyle Divisional. Regional junior athletes will compete in moguls, dual moguls, and upright aerials to qualify for the National Freestyle Championships to be held later in the year. Winter Park, 970-726-1590.

March 9 The Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge. The race itself is free and open to competitors of all ages and abilities. In a dual giant slalom race, skiers and snowboarders compete against others in one of 23 skier and 12 snowboarder age and gender categories in Breckenridge, 970-453-5000.

March 10 - 16 This championship event is open to all qualified Rocky Mountain Division and Central Division USSA J-3 racers (ages 13-14) to culminate the 2001-2002 age class series races. Racers compete in slalom, giant slalom, downhill, and super-G, in Winter Park, 970-726-1590.

March 11 Copper Mountain Tele-Tease, half-day telemark seminar is designed for all levels of skiers. These seminars combine the fine tradition of telemark skiing and the latest advances in techniques. Cost is $53 and includes lift ticket. Price without lift ticket is $43. 888-458-8386 x 4INFO.

March 14 Ghostriders Synchronized Skiing Team exhibition in Telluride.

March 16 - 17 Bud Light Freeride Series: Skier/Boarder Cross. A skier cross will be held on Saturday and the snowboard cross on Sunday. Separate divisions for skiers and snowboarders in Winter Park 970-726-1590.

March 17 Baseball on Skis, this annual spectacle pits the Telluride Ski School against the Ski Patrol. At the base of lift 7 in Telluride.

March 17 Using only tape, cardboard and glue. the young masterminds of Telluride race their sleds on the NASTAR Hill for the benefit of the One-to-One Youth Program of San Miguel County. 970-728-0885.

March 23 - 24 Rocky Mountain Masters Race. Racers over the age of 21 participate in this two-day competitive/social event in giant slalom races in Winter Park, 970-726-1590
