Featured Restaurant - The Buckhorn Exchange

Colorado's most historic eating and drinking emporium, located at 1000 Osage St. in Denver, is now in its second century of operation. The Buckhorn Exchange holds liquor license "Number One" in the state of Colorado.

The Buckhorn Exchange was started in 1893 by Henry H. "Shorty Scout" Zietz, one of the most colorful figures of the Early West. He was a scout with Col. William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody and was dubbed "Shorty Scout" by Chief Sitting Bull, because of his size. From the day The Buckhorn Exchange opened it was know for a hearty meal and lusty drink. A wide variety of people dined here over the years, cattlemen, miners, railroad builders, silver barons, Indian chiefs, roustabouts, gamblers, businessmen even presidents, from Theodore Roosevelt to Ronald Reagan. The list is endless, from royalty to movie stars. After "Shorty Scout's" death in 1949, his son Henry, Jr. took over operation, until the present management purchased the building and business in 1978. Great care was taken to preserve the building and it's contents. It was designated an historic landmark in 1972.

The dinner menu today features steak, buffalo, elk, salmon and other wild game meat. Pot roast sandwich, bean soup and buffalo Reuben sandwich top the lunch menu. This delightful, historic steakhouse visited by Celebrities, US Presidents and foreign Royalty is a "must see" for anyone visiting Denver and wanting a true glimpse of "The Old West".
