February - April In May of 2001, Dorothy and William Sr. Harmsen, founders of the Jolly Rancher Candy Company and long-time residents of Colorado, donated their prestigious Harmsen Western Art Collection to the Denver Art Museum. A Colorado Legacy celebrates this generous gift by showcasing more than 25 of the most significant paintings and American Indian art objects from the collection. The Harmsens' immense collection of Western and American Indian art was amassed over a 40 year period of collecting and includes work by artists including George Catlin, Charles Bird King, N.C. February - May 28 The Denver Art Museum presents China Meets the American Southwest, Pottery Designs and Traditions. February 23 - May 26 The Denver Art Museum premiers the national tour of US Design, offering the first critical assessment of work created by American-based designers in the last quarter century. February 1 - 3 International Snow Sculpture Championships in Breckenridge. Sixteen teams from around the world compete in this eye-pleasing event, creating mammoth works of art from 12-feet-tall, 20-ton blocks of snow. Well-known artists act as judges for the event, which has brought sculptors from as far away as Morocco, Belize, Japan, Canada, Scandinavia, Russia, China and Wales. 970-453-6018

February 1 - 12 - Ullr Fest - A two-week long schedule of events devoted to something Breckenridge does well - having fun! Homage is paid to the mythical Norse god of winter. February 1 - 3 Annual Wells Fargo Bank Cup, in Winter Park, showcases the top disabled ski racers in the World Disabled Invitational in a weekend full of activities to benefit the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD). Disabled racers compete in the dual course, giant slalom event. Pro-am racers are challenged in the triple course format and members of the Denver Broncos will be present throughout the weekend to support the NSCD and participate in events. February 1 - 24. Guided Snowshoe/Cross Country Treks - Rocky Mountain National Park. Beginner level Snow tours lasting 2+ hours, leave from the Kawuneeche Visitor Center at 1:00 pm on Saturdays (ski trip) and 9:30 am on Sundays (snowshoe trip). The tour destinations will change from week to week to provide for the exploration of various ecological systems and historical sites. Call 970-627-3471.

February 2, 3, 9, 23, 24 Copper Mountain Snowboard Series. The longest-running amateur snowboard series in North America, USASA sanctioned series includes Halfpipe on Sat. and Slopestyle on Sun. February 8 7th Annual Topher Mountain Challenge. This fun race is held at the Mary Jane Ski Area on Rainbow Cut trail. The course will be one continuous run consisting of a giant slalom on the top half of the trail, turning into a slalom, and finishing with a bump run and is open to alpine skiers, telemark skiers, and snowboarders. Proceeds benefit programs for Grand County At-Risk youth. , 970-726-1590

February 10 - 11 Special Olympics State Qualifying Meet. SolVista will again be the host site for over 125 athletes competing in slalom, giant slalom and downhill races. To volunteer to be a ski-buddy or for competition information, call 800-777-5767.

February 12 - 15 Columbia Crest Cup, regional qualifier draws the most elite disabled skiers in North America to vie for a position on the United States Disabled Ski Team. Competitors race in slalom, giant slalom, and two super-G events in Winter Park. This event is a key qualifier for the U.S. Alpine Disabled Championships in April. 970-726-1518 or 303-316-1518.

February 23 Wild Hare Snowshoe Trek. The Eighth Annual snowshoe event in Winter Park, offers two different courses, one for those who want to enjoy the scenery and hike, and one for those who want to race their way to the finish line. February 24 Dublin Down - Skier / Boarder X - This Breckenridge original challenges skiers and riders to a high stakes battle for cash and bragging rights. The top three finishers in each division split a purse totaling $2,600 with the top skiers and boarders going head to head in a final round determining the King and Queen. 970-453-5000
